Hi! I write The Navigation, sharing essay on musings, meanderings and methods for navigating modern life as a millennial woman, and a monthly round up dipping into my little black book.
I'm currently drafting my next 'methods' piece and toying with making it a "10 tips for" type piece, but is that a little too click-bait-y these days?
You've encouraged me to mix it up with headlines before Christin, and this again would be something new.
Tips/Lists work because our brains like the organization! Even if it's not a full 10 ... I saw a study once that consumers react more to odd numbers. 🤷♀️ Worth trying! That kind of piece can end up being a pillar piece as well that you point to as part of your conversation's foundation ...
Thanks for the insight Christin, and interesting point about the odd numbers! Will see how the crafting of it goes this week then land on the headline I think ...
I say, go for what lights you up and makes you the most excited about writing that piece. Your genuine enthusiasm will come through and make it worth reading and entice new eyes to sample.
very cool. as a millennial, i'm inspired by your newsletter. career compass column is resonating, as i'm currently very OVER my job since it's not aligning with my personal values.
i had to click into your site to find out what methods referred to, so "10 tips.." is more straightforward. but i know what you mean! what's the balance of not coming off too clickbaity?! dive right into the subject is and lose the number?
Great to hear what I'm sharing is resonating - though sorry to hear you are over your job (but I know the feeling!!). Are you thinking about exploring other avenues?
Thanks for diving in to take a look, much appreciated! Yes it could be avoiding the number / listicle format - as I tend to write more essay style, though sometimes articles with subheadings - will continue to ponder! :)
i sure am! and am perhaps limited in some ways since i need remote opportunities for now but maybe i can hybrid a path for myself with some freelance web content stuff in there 🤔 just gotta dust off a few versions of resumes
I would say go for what’s calling you. Listicles are clickbait-y, but don't we all love them? This is the best part about having your own publication on Substack, testing out and making content you're leaning to 👏 love it
Hi hi hi! I write 'Little dispatches', a newsletter including fragrance reviews (a personal passion/talent, and I want others to be inspired to try things they wouldn't usually turn to, or have yet to discover), fashion, life in London, good food and a Monday Menu series comprising a digestible and enjoyable selection of 5 intentions and priorities for the week ahead, in the hope it inspires others to set their own goals (be it health/mind/creative/fun). This month I would like to do at least one fragrance curation, a fashion essay, a Monday menu, a picture essay of art and interiors that have inspired me, and connect with more people who might wish to have me in their inboxes every few weeks! I'd love to have you! https://amieelizabethwhite.substack.com/
Hi everyone! I'm Sarah, Belgian pastry chef in the UK writing about Belgian food and baking. I haven't got a post planned yet but did write one last week sort of re-introducing what I write about to everyone since I had a whole bunch of new subscribers join so I wanted to give everyone an idea of what has happened so far and a chance to catch up https://sarahfrison.substack.com/p/belgian-patisserie-and-food-traditions .
I write the Coffee Break Newsletter. A midweek pause—filled with book recommendations, book-inspired reflections, and interviews with talented writers to help you rethink life, work, and everything in between. I'm starting new interview series this month— favourite reads by Substack writers.
I write The Clarity Call: "For female freelancers, creatives, & entrepreneurs seeking authentic self-growth 🌱 & discovery as they design a lifestyle & business they love. Weekly business strategy & personal insights to focus on what matters & clearly move forward with purpose." One of my more engaging posts lately is about Adult Friendships and it's here: https://www.newsletter.cheniece.com/p/making-friends-as-a-grownup . Aside from my two scheduled posts, I commit to batching at least two more pieces of scheduled content before the end of this month (because I have no other choice lol).
Party Dip (https://partydip.substack.com/) is about redefining identity and honest connection, mixed with music, culture, and book recommendations, that usually come with a personal slant.
It's recently more about my adoptive Korean identity which I'm reclaiming through millions of hours of K-dramas! :)
For Feb I'm doing Lunar New Year posts for the first 2 weeks:
- a collage of past Chinatown LNY parades (~1x/month I post digital collages)
- essay about my upcoming trip for this year's NYC Chinatown LNY parade (w/ photo, video)
The last 2 weeks of Feb I could work with overarching themes of Year of the Snake associations, like "transformation," "wisdom"? Lunar New Year will be over by then, but I'm trying to brainstorm my way into something.
Generally, I post once a week and rotate my posts with a recommendations post one week (featuring a mix of 3 items and 2 music videos or music mixes) and a short, personal essay the next.
I enjoyed hearing what everyone is up to this month! Thanks all.
I still think the theme works later this month ... sort of a forward-looking, how do we carry this into the year type of feel? Also, I love the name Party Dip. ⚡️

That's a great idea! We all could use a re-intro every now and then. 🫶
Congrants on new subscribers 👏 great idea to reintroduce what you do
Thank you Jana!

"It's weird. It's hard." I love the honesty ... and accuracy, Cheniece! That's definitely the way to connect through writing. 🫶
Intrigued by the sound of this Cheniece, and look forward to reading your work! :)
