Sometimes people ask me: "What do you do?" to which I naturally respond with the truth:
(a) Follow what inspires my curiosity to tell stories I’m excited about.
(b) Ignore anything that makes me feel like curiosity does not exist.
Most things fall into the latter category. As I might have mentioned, I have little patience for wasting time on anything that makes you feel like you’re wasting time.
I prefer to make things I enjoy making and using delight and fun to share them, using content.
It is very cool when you get to make things that interest you, that fill you with joy, and actually make you not want to crawl deep under the covers every morning. It is very cool when you can connect with people around the world who want to hear what you have to say. Because people like what you create. They like you. And want to support your work—and learn from you.
There's a lot of talk out there about the ~creator economy~, but you know what the creator economy is?
People with attention on their work. ⬅️
Have you ever noticed how some creators speak with such conviction that you can't help but lean in? That magnetic pull isn't just expertise—it's the resonance of someone sharing what they know to be true from experience.
In a world where everyone's saying the same things, your unique perspective is what sets you apart. But here's what most creators miss: Your perspective isn't about being different for just to be different. It's about sharing what you actually care about, filtered through the lens of what serves your community.
So let’s release what you think you're "supposed" to talk about and instead share what you genuinely believe. Not every opinion needs to be controversial—it just needs to be real to you and relevant to your people.
Transform Topics Into Perspective
Now that you've mapped your conversation territory, it's time to find your voice within it. Think of clarity as knowing where you stand, and conviction as being willing to take a stand.
Start here:
Review Your Content Topics
Look back at the list of content topics you created last time. For each one, ask:
What common advice in this area makes you cringe?
What "best practices" have you quietly rejected?
What do you wish people knew?
What problems do you solve differently?
Identify Common Threads
Group your topics under 3-5 umbrella categories.
Look for overlap between what you care about and what your audience needs.
Let go of what doesn't serve both you and your community.
Transform Topics into Perspective
For each theme, craft a conviction statement that:
Goes beyond surface-level advice
Reflects your unique approach
Connects with your audience's needs
For example:
Instead of: "I want people to feel confident." Try: "Confidence isn't about perfection—it's about embracing your authentic voice and trusting that what you create matters."
🛟 Stuck? Try These Prompts:
What experiences shaped your beliefs about this topic?
What transformation have you witnessed that proved your approach?
What truth do you keep coming back to?
What advice do you naturally give that goes against conventional wisdom?
Remember: Your perspective doesn't have to be polarizing—it just needs to be passionate. When you speak from true conviction about something that matters to both you and your audience, connection follows.
