Happy October, club! đ Letâs kick off the month with a meetup here at The Content Briefâopen to all subscribers! âĄď¸
âĄď¸ Introduce us to your publication. Tell us what content you have planned this month (ie, commit!). Ask a question. Run a headline by us. Drop a link to your most recent post.
Then engage with two othersâanswer a question, visit their post and comment or restack it ⌠whatever feels right to you!
My newsletter is called Harmonious Balance. It may sound flowery but I tackle the things that throw us off balance, which tend to be tougher topics and paradigm challengers. All are invited to check it out. https://harmoniousbalance.substack.com
I don't usually have a hard core writing plan to follow. But I just had my one year Substack anniversary and I'm hoping to finish up my anniversary post today!
Thank you! Iâm planning to share takeaways in my upcoming anniversary post. The title is called "Embracing This Season of Anonymity." Stay tuned! Perhaps I will edit this comment with the link once it is published.
Saw in your âaboutâ that youâre a chocolatier ⌠if you donât already know Birgitte Rasine of The Cacao Museum you may enjoy her newsletter. Last holiday season she did a âchocolate tasting tourâ interview series that was really fun.
Itâs definitely a combination of French, Dutch and German when it comes to baking influences but itâs all integrated into its own thing. A lot of Belgians would say our baking is betterđ. In terms of food, some classics are chicory wrapped in ham and oven-baked with chicory and red cabbage stewed with a bit of apple with sausage and boiled potatoes.
I finally figured out a focus for my Substack after months of toying with ideas. The publication is called Proud to Read & Write Romance. It's all about (re)claiming the fiction genre that is both the most popular and the most maligned.
Here's the audio of the first post (since the text one seems to be paywalled now ... still figuring things out!) - More than "Clean" or "steamy", Romance is Radical.
Love it! And I bet it feels so great to land on a focus. Always nice when it finally feels right! Plus, your title is greatâclear and enticing to your ideal readers. âĄď¸
This month, I'm working with hope and the Work that Reconnects (WTR). My plan is to share weekly following the WTR Spiral to prepare for my offering at the Reimagining Education Conference happening at the end of the month. Week 1: gratitude (and the guilt that comes with it when the world is falling apart) Week 2: honoring the pain of the world Week 3: seeing with new and ancient eyes. These are my themes not my titles. I'm excited, a bit intimidated but also excited!
Mexico Soul is my Substack and I write about Mexico, the Maya civilization, MX history, travel, art and artisans, archeologists, pyramid sites, and every other week run a chapter of my travel memoir on moving to MX-Caribbean and opening a bookstore. Title--Where the Sky is Born: Living in the Land of the Maya.
October content list: Part 2 of Maya Warrior Queens of the YucatĂĄn; Chap 20: Mexican Fiestas and Day Tripping; Mexican Kitty--Max, Our Jungle Cat; Chap 21: The Heart of Maya Land: A colonial city and an unknown pyramid. (projected headlines).
Thanks Christin! I'm heading to my niece's wedding mid-month and wanted to get everything shipshape before taking off. And then on returning, I didn't want to have to prep a lot (read freak out, haha) after a fun time.
Create Me Free is about where art meets psychology ⌠October is unique because I am taking a bit of a mental health reset so I have filled the month with visual posts. My own collage art. And at least three visual interviews where amazing people answer questions about the relationship between creativity and mental health in images instead of words.
How do you feel about a month thatâs mostly images?
How interesting! It sounds like this lines up nicely with the conversation you lead via your publication, and is a good way to support artists "thinking in visuals." Love the idea. You'll have to let us know how it goes. âĄď¸
The visual posts sound astounding, Kathryn. I think we really connect w/ images in essays-posts and though I'm not an artist (sadly) I always try to find interesting graphics/photos/art to put into my posts. I think it reaches the reader more.
Thank you. I used to think of myself as a not very visual person because I tend to be words-first but over time have come to really value the important impact of images.
Hi lovely people - I write a newsletter called Every Tiny Thought (https://everytinythought.substack.com/). I write about growing up in China and finding home in the US, living across cultures, home, belonging, and all the tiny thoughts I have to share with the world.
I recently travel back to my childhood home for the first time in six years, and I am working on a series to write about my visit there.
Part 1 and Part 2 are already out, and you can follow along for more!
I'd love to connect with anyone who grow up in one place and now live in another; anyone who calls many places home, and anyone who are just curious about the world!
I grew up in India and have lived in the US for over three decades and have seen a transformation in both places. I remember when I came here to study I went to the cafeteria in the dorm and told them âIâm vegetarian â and the student working there said â I have chicken. Iâve fish. Iâve baconâ đđđ. Now vegan and raw food are standard fare. I will definitely check out your series
Hi yâall! Iâm Ashleigh at Travel Bugg: substack.com/@travelbugg. This month, Iâm finishing up my Six Months in South America series which began with meeting an internet stranger in Argentina and will end with a 10-year reunion in Costa Rica. The last week of October, Iâll be celebrating my birthday and debuting a new series: Postcards from Asia. Excited to hear what you think and read your work!
My publication is still morphing, but last month was TOlkien-centric and called âAkin to TOlkienâ. Looking at switching it up to include more âmeâ in the mix, and warn people that I wax and wane with the moon - it will be consistent, but differently consistent content. There will definitely be more Hobbit Hole pictures this month, and some grounded musings, once we get past this eclipseâŚ
Hi, Iâm Diana writing over on Pens & Playlists. My speciality is curating playlists and filling the music-curious with enriching tunes for all occasions. I am starting to slowly get the hang of this writing thing, but definitely feel my authentic voice needs polishing! Does anyone even want to hear about music around here? đ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸
Hello all! Iâm Jillian, and I write Humans Leading where I share stories and tips designed to help us live less stressed, more satisfying lives. I recently wrote this one about the illusion of having it all under control: https://humansleading.substack.com/p/having-it-all-together-is-a-fantasy
Iâm still mapping out my content for the month but have a post/podcast coming out tomorrow on getting better at asking for help. I think the next week will be a post celebrating one year of consistent posting on Substack because I wasnât sure Iâd ever post again after taking a 2 month unplanned break last year after trying too hard to make my publication âjust right.â Does a post on learning to let go of perfectionism in posting sound interesting to anyone?
Hello! Iâm Deepthi and just started publishing and itâs called Whatâs Next? I write about my journey as I figure out Whatâs NextâŚin my career, my health, hobbies and relationships.
This month I plan to publish at least 3 posts about my thoughts on aging.
Hello-Hello Good People!

Congratulations! One year is a big milestone. Looking forward to hearing your takeaways. âĄď¸
Happy Anniversary Johanna!! That's wonderful! Your stack is so of the moment. It's great! And yes, there is So much right now to throw us off balance.
Thank you! I donât want us to settle for remaining off-balance!
Happy one year! What would you say were your biggest takeaways?
Thank you! Iâm planning to share takeaways in my upcoming anniversary post. The title is called "Embracing This Season of Anonymity." Stay tuned! Perhaps I will edit this comment with the link once it is published.
Looking forward to it
Happy anniversary! What a milestone!
Thank you!
Congrats on your anniversary, Johanna! Excited to read the anniversary post and your main takeaways đ
Hi everyone! I'm over at sarahfrison.substack.com where I write about Belgian food and baking. I haven't got any posts planned yet but did post this one a little while ago https://open.substack.com/pub/sarahfrison/p/working-through-a-freezer-full-of which is all about learning how to use different canners, my move and a bit of the history of Weck canningđ.
I love the Weck jars! I should probably learn from you how to use them properly!
Theyâre so pretty!
Saw in your âaboutâ that youâre a chocolatier ⌠if you donât already know Birgitte Rasine of The Cacao Museum you may enjoy her newsletter. Last holiday season she did a âchocolate tasting tourâ interview series that was really fun.

A chocolate tasting tour is something I could get behind! âĄď¸
I am 1/4 Belgian, but have no clue what constitutes that kind of food and baking. My Great-grandmother was from Mons. Sounds cool!
Ok, you just rocked my world. I LOVE chicory!
Youâre very welcome, Quinnđ.

Forgot to mention that I created this "plan" because of the Q4 planning workshop
I love to hear that! đ
Sounds incredible! The personal is universal and these explorations are often what connect us to each other. đŤś
So curious to learn more about âseeing with new and ancient eyesâ. A beautiful idea.

Oh, so well said!
Quinn, I love that! Very interested in these Hobbit Hole pics âşď¸
Ack! I canât share one here, but thereâs one on my homepage https://quinncolumbaboyko.substack.com

This month I plan to publish at least 3 posts about my thoughts on aging.
I just published my first post today about reimagining life in retirement. https://open.substack.com/pub/whatznext/p/que-sera-sera-whatever-will-be-will?r=4dq6u&utm_medium=ios
Iâm working on my next post about how to focus on wellbeing now before we actually age.
The other post will be about skeletons in the attic. A humorous take on many withered projects that should coincide with Halloween.
Hopefully people will check it out and let me know how Iâm doing - https://whatznext.Substack.com
