Master Your Message: Define & Document Your Writer's Voice
Welcome to The Content Brief đŒ, a community designed to help you take control of your content with a strategy and system to make it feel simple. Itâs less âhow to succeed on Substackâ ⊠more *how to stay sane* as the Editor in Chief of your content.

âȘ Last time, deciding how you will deliver your message, your style. Find that here.
â© Today, bringing it all together with your brand bio.
You did it! Youâve made it to the end of our challenge to better Master Your Message. Youâve articulated the who, why, what, how and personality of your writerâs voice and style, spending time reflecting on and drafting each element so now you have a working Writerâs Voice and Style Guide for your publication.Â
That is a huge win! đ
At each stage, the questions have pushed you to really stop and think about your publication and what youâre building. Hopefully, youâve been able to let those questions prompt your thinking, make decisions and get drafting.Â
Keep your Style Guide as a live document to reference, return to, review and revise often. Your messaging will grow with you. It should. (And thatâs why itâs housed in an easy-to-update Google Doc.)
So, letâs wrap things up, shall we?
Finally, itâs time to draw from everything youâve drafted so far to complete your writerâs brand bioâa concise overview statement for your Substack.
Step 1: Reflect on the following
Revisit everything youâve explored to date, including:
Who you help
What you do
How you do it differently
What solution or transformation you bring about
Then use it to write your own writerâs âbrand bioâ using this template:
[Your Substack name] helps [who - the target audience] [do what - the desired outcome] through/by/with [how - your differentiators] so that/because [why - your solution or transformation].
Step 2: Share in the comments
đŁ Iâd love to hear from you. Head to the comments and join in!

Grab your Writerâs Voice & Style Guide template
When you click the link, you will see a "read-only" version of the template in GoogleDocs. Click "Make a copy" to create your own copy to edit and customize. I keep this guide in my bookmarks bar for easy access and to serve as a constant reference and filter for everything I create.
Thanks for reading! Iâd love to hear in the comments if this resonated or if thereâs something youâre going to try. Seriously, drop a comment or hit reply. I'd honestly loooove to hear from you. Typing into the void isn't nearly as fun as interacting with a real humanâyou! đ«¶Â
